Anime Breaker Portals Guide: Ranks C–S, Shadow Warriors & Time Trials

Portals are Hunter City’s instanced side-mode: raid runs drop portal items ranked C through S, and clearing a portal pays upgrade tokens plus recruitable Shadow Warriors. It’s the second half of the Hunter City endgame alongside the Class Tree — the tree turns coins into account stats, portals turn raid clears into warriors and tokens.

How do you get and run portals?

Portals drop from Hunter Raid clears. Each one is a self-contained fight: summon it, clear the enemies inside, collect the payout. Two features make them grindable:

  • Auto portal — queues clears without re-summoning manually.
  • Follow Host — lets you join another player’s portal, so a stronger teammate can carry you through higher ranks.

Higher-letter ranks pay better, but even C-rank portals are worth running — tokens and warriors both feed permanent upgrades regardless of rank.

What are Shadow Warriors?

Portal-exclusive units — Ant King, Summoner, Tank, Healer, and Orc are the documented roster — collected from clears and merged upward through tiers. The loop:

  1. Collect copies of a Shadow Warrior from portal clears.
  2. Merge to Tier 3 — the tier cap where passives unlock.
  3. Roll for passives at T3 — documented rolls reach 6× Energy, which is why warriors outrank most gear for Energy farming.

Prioritize Ant King if you get to choose — it’s the marquee warrior and thematically the Ant King’s own shadow.

Where should portal tokens go?

Upgrade tokens spend on a permanent stat board inside the portal UI. Two nodes outvalue everything else early:

Priority Upgrade Why
1 Energy Energy is the universal multiplier — every other system scales off it
2 Max Enemies More simultaneous targets = more drops per auto-farm cycle

Everything after those two is situational; fill them in order until both are comfortably high, then spread to the combat nodes.

What are Time Trials?

A separate timed mode that fires on the same cadence as Marine Invasion: a Time Trial opens every 30 minutes and runs for 30 minutes, and its drop table covers every currency in the game — Gold, coins, and upgrade materials all roll at once.

Two rules maximize it:

  • Pop a Tier 2 Drop Potion before you enter — the trial’s all-currency table means Drop potions hit everything at once; the potions guide covers the pause trick if you want to stretch it.
  • Spend on the permanent Time Trial upgrades: Relentless (Energy), Overdrive (+25% attack speed), Breaker (Damage), and Scavenger (Gold) — permanent account stats, not consumables.

How do portals fit the daily loop?

Portals, raids, and trials interleave cleanly:

  1. Run Hunter Raid for portal drops — the raids guide covers ticket sources.
  2. Auto-clear the portals you got, merging warriors toward T3 and spending tokens on Energy first.
  3. Catch Time Trials on the half-hour and Marine Invasion at :15/:45 in Pirate Village — both run on a fixed timer, so a long session can cover both.

The zones guide has the full Hunter City context if you’re still unlocking the world itself.
